The Javan rhino is one of the world’s rarest animals, with just some 60 animals left in the wild. This magnificent beast was sculpted specially for Nick’s TV appearance as guest artist and judge on The Great Pottery Showdown. Read the full story here.

Raku-fired sculpture is bisque fired in an electric kiln and then heated rapidly to 980C before being immersed in a combustible material, such as sawdust. The glaze melts in the firing, developing a distinctive crackle finish, while the final combustion imparts a smoky matt finish to any unglazed areas. The effect is very natural looking and perfectly captures the raw drama of many wild animals.
